Teen dating violence can be physical, emotional, or sexual, and includes stalking.
Victims of teen dating violence are more likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety.
They might also engage in unhealthy behaviors, such as using tobacco, drugs, and alcohol.
We must recognize that these are important for so many young people and it allows them to express themselves, be creative, learn from each other and connect with others around the world. When it comes to teen dating violence, social media can be used for revenge porn, stalking, threats and many more things that we may not even understand.
Does that mean teens shouldn’t be allowed to have access to social media? It does mean we need to have these conversations with our young people and create brave spaces for them to come forward if they are being attacked by their partner on social media.
Talk to teens now about the importance of developing healthy, respectful relationships.
